The numbers in the circles

So, there’s a girl at work who can’t have any of those red numbers on her phone, or she goes nuts. She says it’s OCD. I showed her my phone. She was like, “OMG Bob, how can you stand it? Get rid of them!”

It’s seriously not that big of a deal.

So today has been weird. I had to go into work very early this morning. I got home and wrote a prompt post. As soon as I published it, I got a text from my sister saying she was coming home early. I thought maybe their computers were down again. It happened last week. She works as a civilian accountant on an army base. She was in the Air Force for 20 years.

When she got home, she told me my Uncle Jim died. He was only 3 years older than me. He was my mom’s brother. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer a while back. He went into hospice on Friday and died this morning.

So, about an hour ago, my sister and I were watching tv, waiting for the College Baseball World Series. Arkansas is playing. All of a sudden we heard a noise in the attic and the ceiling fan fell out of the wall. It’s hanging by a wire. I climbed the stairs to the creepy attic, but since I’m not an electrician I just looked around without even knowing what I was looking for. They (hopefully) are supposed to come fix it tomorrow.

I’m not really a believer in ghosts, but it is an odd coincidence.

If aliens landed on earth tomorrow and offered to take you home with them, would you go? (remember this is SYW, they are friendly aliens)

No, I wouldn’t. I saw that To Serve Man episode of The Twilight Zone. I’m no fool.

How tall are you? Are you satisfied with your height?

6 feet. Yeah, I’m satisfied.

Do you think you could live without your smartphone (or other technology item) for 24 hours?

My laptop died over a year ago. I didn’t get a new one. I’ve been doing everything on my iPad, kindle, and phone. It’s worked out okay. I forgot my phone at home 2 weeks ago. The first hour was strange. Then I got over it. It was just one work shift. Just like everything else, I suppose I could assimilate over time. I could definitely survive 24 hours. I have books.

I must admit, I need my music. I would miss my iTunes, Amazon Music, Echo, and streaming sites the most. I do have a record player and CD player. I guess I could make do with that.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I saw a Rothko painting in person. I ❤️ him.

I’ve always felt estranged. I’m sure everybody has. From family, from society, from whatever.

Sometimes I think it’s because of me. Sometimes I think it’s because of something else. It all gets so convoluted and confusing. And then, I just don’t care anymore. Some people call it apathy. I call it I’m just sick of it all.

I’m not a pessimist. I can look at situations and think, “Yes, there is a possibility of a bright and positive outcome”. I look at other situations and think – via inateness, logic and past history – that the shit is going to be fucked up forever. No amount of marches, protests, sit-ins, or even prayer is going to fix it. That’s just my dystopic and existential nature. Oh yeah, and common sense.

Man is just an aggressive animal. I could do a whole discourse on how man justifies his hatred, and bigotry, and xenophobia, and greed, but it would just all be a waste of time. Everybody has an opinion. They really don’t mean anything.

The funny thing is, I’m basically a happy person. Probably because I don’t delude myself about the world, or my country, or mankind in general. I am not Pollyanna, but then again I am no bumptious, jingoistic ogre either. To quote Jan Brady, “I’m in the middle. And being in the middle is like being invisible.” I’m fine with that.
